2020-2021
ULTIMATE GOAL
Our Season
Even though our team, except for the coach's kids, was unable to meet in-person for seven months during the middle of the robotic season, we still had a good and successful year. We were able to push through the challenges we faced and came out on top. At the Vermont Championship, our team won First Inspire which earned us a ticket to the World Championship in Detroit, Michigan.
Our Robot
Our robot had a four stage intake which allowed us to quickly intake the rings off the field and put them in the correct location to be shot out. Our shooter mechanism was a stealth wheel attached on a 1:1 goBILDA. There was a kicker that pushed the rings the shooter wheel to be launched our of the robot. Our arm, which was designed to pick up the wobble goal, was mounted on a 40:1 NeverRest motor. The grabber on the end opens and closes using a server to secure and release the wobble goal.
Spreading Robotics Throughout our Community
As a result of COVID-19, our future outreach events have been cancelled. However, in early spring, we were able to attend a local event called, Food From the Farm. There, we encouraged kids, as well as adults, to drive our robot around and stack stones. From this event, we inspired and motivated many individuals to take an interest in FIRST and STEM. We even had someone talk to us about starting a local FLL (FIRST Lego League) team with our help.
Lending a Helping Hand
Even though this season has been much different than anyone anticipated, Team Beta still strives to inspire, connect, and motivate our neighbors, our community, and the world. We have been answering questions from other FTC teams on Discord, and we have been keeping our Virtual Robot updated and working. We are not only helping other teams, but also people in and out of our community. Our team members have printed a total of over 500 face shield bands, which were distributed to first responders in New York and medical personnel in Gabon, Africa. In addition, we helped the elderly in our community by raking leaves and getting their yard ready for winter. Additionally, we presented to 800 middle schoolers from all across New York state at Shine On, an event in partner with NASA
